The Medina Spinning and Weaving
Guild was invited to help refurbish The Saltbox House site at
Hale Farm and Village in Ohio. The Saltbox
House was built in the 1830's and moved to Hale Farm in 1962. It was recently
closed for renovation. Guild member Becky Monegan, also an educator at the
museum, felt that The Saltbox House could use the added warmth and cheer of
handmade textiles. Becky has worked in the Spinning and Weaving Department at
Hale Farm and Village for twenty-seven years. She enjoys demonstrating
spinning, weaving, and natural dyeing, in addition to production weaving for
the museum gift shop. When she asked her fellow guild members if they would
like to help with the Saltbox House Project, they formed a study group. Now,
more than twenty pieces have been donated by guild members. Becky tells us,
"The house is a great public showcase for our guild members' beautiful work.
Their work has really made the Saltbox House look more like a home."
