Here is the survey from our Summer issue:
Liz GoodManaging Editor, Spin-Off
wish we could pick two options as I have learned how to use the Russian and Turkish Spindles and love both of them as much as the bottom whorl.
I was pleased to see this issue with its focus on spindles, as I am in that small minority of spinners who do not (and never plan to) use a spinning wheel.
I use tahklis daily and then ply on one of the top whorls, but if I HAVE to choose one it would have to be the top whorl simply because it is more versatile.
I use both now but was so afraid of the spindle for the longest time. I thought I coud never master it as my yarns were so bulky & ugly, I have gotten so much better and I love it now. I spin as much on my spindle as my wheel.
Nice to know there are others like me in the spinning world. I'm committed to spindle only as I only have ever met one wheel I liked, and that not enough to spend lots of money on.
I have a strong preference for top whorl spindles, and Turkish as distant second.
