Hi, I am new to this group. I wondered if anyone has spun up buffalo down before. I have purchased some, have cleaned and spun up the coarser buffalo fiber, but not the soft down. What is the best way to clean it before carding and spinning? What kind of detergent? I don't want it to wad up while washing.
I did mine in Dawn and cold water with little or no agitation. I then went through and combed it with my double row combs. I could have carded them in to rolags and then spun them up, but didn't. I put a little hair conditioner in the final bath (warm water works better to dissolve the conditioner) to control static and help with any felting that may have happened.
Buffalo, American bison, love to roll in dirt to remove parasites and to cool off.
