Has anyone else spun bunny and other such fibers straight from the cards?

I've always had sweaty hands and, while I adore Angora, I detest having to powder my hands in an attempt to keep them dry enough (they just swell up and get gummy...meh). So one day I tried spinning straight from the cards and it was marvelous! Slub-free, laceweight and almost effortless both by wheel AND by spindle! That was years ago and after finding the forums I wondered if anyone else had 'unvented it', as Elizabeth Zimmerman used to say...

Hello!

Yes, I spin right off of the Angora rabbit. I travel to festivals and set the bunny in my lap and as I pluck the hair I spin it right on to my wheel. I can relate to sweaty hands. Mine are not normally sweaty, but there has been times when it was so hot (we dress in period celtic dresses) I cannot spin the Angora at all. I hadn't thought of using powder. Now that you mention it , I could see where the powder would gum up and make things worse!! I am glad it is working out for you spinning right off of the cards. I have never tried that!!

Happy Spinning!!
