Spinning with a Purpose will be a four day retreat with Judith MacKenzie July 16 -19, 2012 at the Alton Collins Retreat Center in Eagle Creek near Portland, Oregon.
This workshop is all about getting the yarn you’ve always wanted. Need a perfect sock yarn? Want to make an exquisite cashmere lace yarn? Ready to spin the warp for your blanket? We’ll learn about fibers, how they are spun and how to use them to their best advantage. You’ll have a chance to spin a variety of beautiful fibers and to work with combs, carders, and handcards.
Bring with you something for show and tell, if you like. Bring any fibers that have given you grief. Bring your wheel and all its parts - including the ones you’ve never used. Bring along any other spinning equipment - combs, cards, dog brush, niddy noddy, ball winder, that you like to use. Bring a selection of knitting needles in the sizes you like to work with.
Vendors who attend can vend at the event for free.
Alton Collins is a beautiful, comfortable retreat center. The food is healthy, delicious, and home-cooked, served family style. For four days of class, three meals a day, and very nice accommodations it will be $700 for a private room, $650 for double-occupancy, and $575 for a triple or quad occupancy.
The retreat may fill fast, so I will determine enrollment by the payment postmark date. E-mail markmary@gorge.net for registration information.
There are a few wheels available to loan if you’re flying and don’t want to fly with your wheel.
Is there a different cost for commuters?
