  • Re: Undoing the skein

Answer: very carefully. Ideally, you get an umbrella swift (a special rack to lay it on) and a yarn winder (that makes a nice center pull ball) and work with it carefully. If you got the skein at a yarn shop they should have (and let you use) both items. If not, but you HAVE an umbrella swift, set it...

  • Re: Just started spinning again and still like it.

I know nothing about spinning dog hair so I have no opinion on that. But if you are unsure of yourself, and have a limited or finite amount of dog hair, don't use it to practice on. We get better in time by working on our craft. you are probably doing very well but you want to do better. A class...

  • Re: Total newbie and not spinning animal fibres

You sound like a perfectly NORMAL Newbie. As another columnist says on a totally other subject: it gets better. I would suggest concentrating on wool for now, it may be easier. Do what I have heard is called Park and draft: twist up your wool, stop the wheel, draft it out and then draw it in and do it...

  • I've lurked long enough, I guess it's tme to say hello.

Hello, my name is Richard and I'm an addict. It's something I never thought about until I allowed my fiancee to take me to a fiber festival last fall. It was a trick, she suggested we go on a motorcycle ride. While all the yarn knitting devices were of no interest, I was fascinated by the spinning...

  • All the steps

Hello! I am severely new, meaning I don't even have a spindle yet, but I'm confused as to the whole process - from a bunch of fluffy fiber to a finished product like a scarf. I know spinning is first. Do I wind it into balls straight away after I've spun it? Is plying second? What is this...

  • Looking for a teacher

Hi. I'm brand-new to this group. I am looking for someone who could teach me how to spindle spin yarn. I used to know how to do this (I was still a newbie spinner, even when I last tried to spin), but I literally have not spun in years. I live in Tallahassee, Florida, and wonder if there might be...
