Thank, Oliver. I may have found something that works--but isn't very cheap! Schacht Spindles come in a 3 oz and a 2.5 oz size and i think they do the trick just fine. They cost about $20 each but I can order 20 or so at a time, so that is good. I am spoiled: I just reconnected with the woman who...

I will be in Durham NC at the end of June and would love to find someone who can look at the red labradoodle fur I am trying to spin and perhaps sell me the right spindle and help me learn how to spin with it. The fibers are beautiful but very short and others have suggested that I mix it with a longer...

My favourite spindle, of the quite sizeable collection I now have is this one from IST spindles.. Oak Bur on Sycamore with Ash shaft. Rim banded / weighted and it is 28 grm. I now carry it with me everywhere and am spinning medium weight yarn with it... http://www.thewoodemporium.co.uk/dropspindles.php

Thanks so much for everyone's help! I've just ordered a Barebones spindle that just happened to be on sale and some gorgeous pre-dyed Corriedale roving. I've also just found out that the barn owner where my horses are used to spin when she still lived in Germany and can help me over the rough...

Hello all! I've wanted to learn to spin for several years now, and have finally decided to go ahead and try it. I'm so excited!!! I will probably get a top-whorl spindle, since it sounds like that will last the longest. So, the question is, should I go with the absolute cheapest spindle to start...

It's like asking what your favorite wine is: whatever is in my glass at the time. Right now, I'm spinning Foxfire cashmere/silk on a Forrester. So that is it. But last month, it was baby camel/silk on a Spindlewood, and THAT was it. FIckle-dee-dee! Laurie
