  • In need of expert advice!

Hello, I thought I would post here, because the editors of a spinning magazine should be aware of the business side of spinning, right? :) My question is this: I am looking at starting a small fiber business, but am not sure how to market my skeins of handspun properly. No two skeins have exactly the...

  • Dye yarn before or after

I learned to spin back in the mid-70s. Up until a year ago I used my yarn to knit up small projects and to perfect the craft (learning to spin other fibers than wool--alpaca, yak, silk, cashmere, etc, etc--and learning special techniques to make designer yarns). The last few months I've been spinning...

  • Re: Can you help Amy decide?

I've ripped and re-knit great yarn quite a few times for a variety of reasons, and have never been sorry I did. Your cardigan will be so much better because of all you learned, and it will fit! Good luck! A

I would most definitely rip it out and start knitting again. Now that it is dyed the indigo color and it is handspun silk. I haven't seen a window that is worthy of handspun silk.

  • Corriedale DK Cap Fall 2010

When knitting the brim of this hat, I lose 1 stitch per row. Could someone please check the instructions and provide some guidance? There is a P2 together at the end of each row that I think is the culprit. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Re: A Snug CVM Hat

Woah, sorry, this is awefully old. I just got my backorder of that issue, and am currently spinning up the yarn to use. Once I get to the actual knitted hat part, I'll let you know how that goes, and how I do it. I have a tendancy to not follow the pattern exactly (I'm already doing so by using...

  • Re: Just finished weaving

Complicated? Not really. Just steps to go through to make it all happen. I began with an idea and looked up roughly how much yarn I'd need for a blanket. Then I just started spinning. Remember, weaving is just following a pattern. The setup may seem long, but once you are set up, you can whiz through...

  • Re: hand spun yarn and knitting machines

I machine knit with my handspun all the time. I don't treat handspun any differently from commercially spun yarn. The main consideration is the gauge of the machine. The Japanese machines (Silver Reed/Studio/Singer, Brother/KnitKing, and Toyota) come in four gauges determined by the distance in millimeters...

  • Mountain Goat Wool and Swan Down

Inspired by the article by Judith MacKenzie McCuin and with lots of support from the community I spun skeins of mountain goat wool and swan down and knit them into traditional regalia leggings that included strips of yellow cedar. Thank you for the wonderful article and the great insight into what plants...

  • Re: After I spin it...

I finished my dad's sweater! This is a ewe Lincoln/Targhee fleece spun worsted to pop the cables. I still need to adjust the neck a bit, but that's easy. I knit the cables without the extra needle and made steeks. I charted everything and crossed off every line. It may be OCD, but I had fewer...
