  • Re: Hello. New around these parts!

Also, keep your hands at least 3-4 inches apart. If you are pulling too close, you can't get the fiber to separate and let the twist ride up the wool. And one more thing: Let go a bit. If you hold the wool too tight, it will also fight with you. The rest is just practice! Good luck. barb

  • Re: hello from Portugal

Hi, thank you for that information. How exciting to grow and use your own dye plants! Look out, spinning is addictive! Well, I find it so. I am interested in Japanese indigo. Is it different from the other indigo? I have an icelandic fleece which I am spinning. Beautiful silky wool it makes :)

  • Re: after spinning

I had an epiphany this morning: I think it is time we all learned to weave. Spinning is fun and spun wool accumulated FAST. The rule of thumb is 3-7 days spinning to feed the loom for one day. (3-7 because it depends on who said it, I am not sure exactly how big my thumb will be....but I guess I will...

  • Re: I need to buy them wholesale!

Thank, Oliver. I may have found something that works--but isn't very cheap! Schacht Spindles come in a 3 oz and a 2.5 oz size and i think they do the trick just fine. They cost about $20 each but I can order 20 or so at a time, so that is good. I am spoiled: I just reconnected with the woman who...

  • Guilds question

I just joined and I found a place talking about guilds. What ARE guilds, as opposed to spinning groups? If I have a group, locally and I want to create a Guild what will I need to know or do? barb

  • I need to buy them wholesale!

I need a source for spindles. I teach beginning spindle spinning sometimes and I need a source for 3 oz (approx. but I don't want them too light) low whorl spindles. I call them "half-orange" spindles because the whorl is shaped almost in a half circle. I want to buy 10-20 of them to make...

I went through the first of a 6 year program and hope to continue (If I can get the homework done!) I use a Schacht original wheel (now called...
