Hello everyone out there,

Are all of you who have  LOTS of snow, like me, hibernating and getting lots of spinning etc. done?  I am trying to get a lot of knitting done so that I can get on to the serious stuff of spinning a pile of tops which I have bought.  I aim to blend some dyed silk and different types of wool tops to make a cardigan which, I hope, will match some long sleeve tops which I have.

Have a lovely Festive Season and Good Wishes for the New Year.

Hi Lorna

WOW you can tell I haven't been on here for a long while as I don't know many of the new faces here.

Well the old dog is back!

Sorry I haven't been around for quite a while but I have been preoccupied for a long while with other things.  Now is the time to let you know how things are going for me.  Well SpinDyeWeavers is trolling along just fine and we have been trying out various fibres and after a short holiday in Devon in October, on the way home I picked up 2 1/2 kilos of pencil roving in the new wool Exmoor Blueface.  It's a new crossbreed found in East Devon produced by Jon Arbon at Coldharbour Mill.  It is a cross between the Exmoor and the Bluefaced Leicester sheep (duh) and is found only in the East Devon area.  We tried out the ordinary roving first, dyed and spun.  I found that it felted quite a bit in the dyeing process (kettle dyeing) so I opted for the pencil roving, which I'm going to spin first then dye as yarn.  It can have a hard feel to it but it's not unpleasant.  You wouldn't want to wear it next to your skin.  We also have been using some Falkland from DHS.  It is soooo soft and spins and dyes like a dream.  I bought quite a few fleeces this year and still have got to try and get through them, ready for next years batch.  I have some Jacobs coming in the New Year (Jan) and I think they will be made into rugs.

I have splashed out and bought myself a Kromski rigid heddle loom and stand,  before the VAT increase, this is to try and use up some of the spun yarn I have.

Well that's about all folks, gotta go now and plan which books to buy with my Christmas pressie money.

Have a wonderful Christmas everybody and a fantastic healthy and happy 2011.

Hi Mary

I hope you had a great Christmas, ours was nice and quiet and white.  It's the first white Christmas since I have lived here in 20 years, the snow finally melted 2 days ago.  It's nice for a while then it gets on my nerves a bit.

Bristol is a little subdued over the murder of a young woman from the Clifton area, I do hope they get her killer soon.  Each night her parents and boyfriend are on the tele and are so distressed.

Anyway the new year beckons and I hope it will be a better one for everybody.  All the very best to all our members.
