I found these at the thrift store and used them to hold my cones while I worked the threads together, but I really want to know what they are supposed to be used for.  The center spindle is adjustable so I thought maybe it was used to measure off a hank from a cone???

These are very interesting. Are you sure they are spinning related? Does the centre spindle "lock" into place anywhere along the slot? If so they may be an elaborate style of Andean Plying Tool for making a loop/skein of yarn that can be plied with itself from both ends at once, and even if that isn't their intended use,  I believe they could be used for that purpose.

looks like a skeiner to me, the segmented posts allow for tying off, nice and neat

I'm not sure of the scale, but it looks like a plate/platter display that you use on the wall. The plate rests on the bottom 2 pegs, and the top one adjusts down to rest on the top of the plate. I haven't seen one exactly like this, but similar. But I am the queen of 're-purposing', and it sounds like you have found a great use for it!

Hmmm, is it a plate display holder, adjustable to the size of the plate?

Are there any markings on it, like from a maker?

I think the plate display is probably right, but looks like it would make a good niddy noddy in a pinch Chloe.

This looks like it could be used for Andean plying.

A warping board for small amounts, such as for a woven belt or necklace would be my guess, but just a guess!

Hard to tell scale..but looks like a fancy banjo loom for braiding rug strips..the adjustable post would hold tension on core..waisted shape on opposite end

would hold the other end/finished braid..still only a guess.

seeing post very late..
